In this approach to economic geography, methodology is not about ‘getting accurate data’, but instead considers the kinds of economic realities our research is representing and thus producing. Within the diverse economies field, community economies scholars aim to both represent and produce a world where capitalism is not the sole dominant economic force shaping peoples’ lives. This chapter outlines how this understanding of economic performativity is expressed in ethical and critical methodologies of economic geography, and in particular the field of diverse and community economies research.
