The research focuses on interconnected social, cultural and ecological wellbeing because of the unique and complex challenges currently facing policy makers, urban governance leaders, building industry and wider culture. Community understandings of how people relate to place, and how people can maintain or
regenerate ecological and socio-cultural wellbeing are explored. There was a shared understanding of the urgent need to improve the wellbeing of the living world; the earth, sea, sky, mountains and forests. There was also a sophisticated understanding of how contemporary building practices, urban form and urban systems have degraded ecosystem wellbeing and lessened social and cultural ties and community cohesion.
